Boston Home Security: Protecting Your Family From Violent Crime and Home Invasions

If you’re a parent, you may have found the headlines recently to be more than you can bear. It seems as if every day, we’re subjected to a new, horrible story where young, innocent children are killed by predatory criminals.  Time magazine tells us the tale of Alyssa Bustamante, who stabbed and strangled nine year old Elizabeth Olten, to “see what it felt like”.  In Florida, Jared Harrell admitted to killing seven year old Somer Thompson, as well as molesting other area children, in exchange for a sentence of life without parole.  When we, as parents, are confronted by the existence of evil people like Bustamante and Harrell, we must wonder how we can keep our children safe?

Boston Home Security

Child safety experts agree: the must be individual and community efforts made to make the world a safer place for children. In this article, we talked to your Boston locksmith about steps you can take to make your home more safe and secure. It’s a sad but true fact that in many instances, the perpetrators of violence against children are people who knew and had access to the child.  This means that as parents, we have to be especially vigilant about who we associate with, and who we allow our children to associate with. However, nothing is foolproof – even the most aware parents have been surprised by treachery from trusted family members, friends, and neighbors.

One way to help keep your child safe is to restrict access to your home. The days when we could leave our doors open are long gone. It’s essential to have strong locks on every entrance point to your home, and to use those locks.  Criminals who are out to snatch a child have to move fast: secure door locks and window locks slow things down, increasing the chances of detection and capture. If you don’t have strong locks in your home, talk to your Boston locksmith. They’ll install new locks, or a home locking system, which provides whole home security you can control with the push of a button!

Being a small business owner is tough.  It takes so much to build a successful business. It all starts with an idea, which you nurture and encourage with your hard work and effort.  Countless hours, financial resources, and all of your energy goes into creating a thriving enterprise. Throw in a tough economy and the whole prospect becomes even more challenging.

Imagine how you’d feel if someone took it all away from you.  There is no type of business or enterprise that is immune from criminal activity.  Thieves look for opportunities to make quick cash. Vandals look for opportunities to wreak havoc.  Identity thieves look for your business’ private records, using the information they find on your computer and in your filing cabinets to perpetrate frauds. You can lose everything you worked so hard for in a single instant.

Boston Business Security

Every small business owner needs to have a security plan.  Talk to your Boston locksmith about what can be done to keep your Boston business, restaurant, bed and breakfast, apartment complex, managed property, or other location safe and secure.  There are many types of locking systems. You can choose a system that allows the public access to certain parts of your business, but keeps them safely out of other areas. Security system options secure your property and monitor for fire, criminal activity, and other emergency systems.

Small business experts recommend allocating minimum 3-5% of your annual operating budget to security costs.  Boston small business security is a sensible investment, protecting your physical plant, inventory, and employees.  You’ve worked hard for what you have. You don’t have to let anyone take it away from you.

The former Miss Iceland, Anna Bjornsdottir, is the woman who collected over $2 million in reward money for turning in notorious Boston crime lord, Whitey Bulger. Authorities say they can’t guarantee Miss  Bjornsdottir’s security, now that her identity is known.

Whether you’re a beauty queen, prone to dropping the dime on criminals on the run, or just an ordinary sort of person, you need to be mindful of your home security.  You may not have two million dollars in reward money – but that won’t stop the criminal element in this world from trying to break in and take what you have accumulated. Women and men alike need to worry about home invasion: a crime that is on the rise all across our nation.

What can you do to best ensure your home security? And what can be done if you’ve had dramatic life circumstances that make it prudent to make your living situation safer?

The first step is to talk to your Boston locksmith.  Making sure that all the entrances to your home can lock safely and securely is a simple step to help keep you and your family safer.  Don’t rely on the locks that came with your home. In our area, older homes often have inadequate locks. Upgrading to more secure locks can keep you safer.

Another option to consider is having a home security system installed.  When you’re shopping for a home security system in Boston, you’ll discover you have several options.  Talk with your Boston locksmith about your needs, and what security systems will best work with your home, your lifestyle, and your budget. The peace of mind is totally worth it!

At the end of the day. we’re all in the same boat as Ms. Bjornsdottir.  No one can promise that we’ll be perfectly safe from those who wish to do us harm. However, we can all take reasonable, prudent steps that keep our families much safer.  It all starts with your Boston locksmith!

Boston Residential Security: In Case of Storm

Home Security After Natural Disasters: What You Need To Know

Hurricane Irene was an unusual event for our region. We live far from the tropics where high winds, driving rain, and intense localized flooding are regular events. The storm forced massive evacuations: the streets of NYC were emptied by gubernatorial order for the first time ever.

How do you know your home is as secure as possible when you’re forced to be away? That’s a good question. This month, we’re going to be looking at some basic home security steps you can take in case weather forces you to be away from your home. Hurricanes aren’t common, but in the Northeast, we have more than our fair share of blizzards!

Business owners have reason to be particularly concerned. There are always people who use extreme weather events as an excuse to indulge in criminal activity. Security camera footage was integral in catching two men accused of looting in Virginia Beach post-Irene. No business is safe: if a thief perceives an opportunity, they’re going to act on it.

Boston Residential Security: Before the Storm

There are two steps every homeowner should take before the next weather event hits our region. The first is to make a complete inventory of your home. Take pictures of your valuables. Record serial numbers. Many people are struggling to complete insurance claims now with incomplete information. Having a thorough record of what you own will make it easier to have those items replaced.

The second is to make sure you have a superior home locking system. The ability to lock your home completely and securely is essential. Don’t rely on simple doorknob locks that you can buy at any discount store: all it takes is a determined thief with a screwdriver to force entry to your home. Modern home locking systems keep criminals out – and provide protection even when the power goes out!

If you are evacuated from your home, make sure to take your most valuable possessions with you. Official documents, including homeowner’s insurance policies, identifying documents such as birth certificates and social security cards, and your banking information are must-bring items. Heirloom jewelry, family photographs, and other small items can be brought with you. The best home safes can serve as a secure repository against flood waters and fire.

Boston Commercial Security: Make Sure Your Business Is Protected

During an extreme weather event you need to control who has access to your business. Master key systems allow the business owner or their designated employee to gain entry to every room: critical when checking for storm damage, rescuing inventory from storm waters, and the like. Restricted key systems make it possible for key holders to access pre-determined areas of the business. Talk with your Boston locksmith about what your options are and what’s right for your business.

Boston Locksmith: Lock Repairs

It may happen that during the course of a storm, the existing locks on your home or business become damaged. This damage can be due to the incredible forces of nature, emergency services personnel forcing entry to rescue people, or random vandalism or criminal activity. Your Boston locksmith can replace damaged locks, re-key existing locks, or install a new home security system to increase your peace of mind after a storm.

Boston: When You Need A Locksmith

September 9, 2011 by kennyslockinc

Chances are you’ve never really thought about needing a locksmith.  Most people don’t.  After all, they don’t really have a reason to.  They go through their day, opening and shutting the door to their home or business. They get into and out of their car.  It’s all completely effortless and unremarkable – until a careless moment leaves you locked out of your home, business, or vehicle.

There are instances where being locked out of your home or business can present a very real and present danger.  If you have infants or small children locked inside the home while you are outside, you will find your mind racing through the hundreds of ways kids find to get into trouble while you’re unable to stop them.  This is when having a locksmith available for emergency locksmith service in Boston is a great idea.

It’s also important to have access to a Boston locksmith when you are locked outside during inclement weather.  We don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we’ve had some terrible weather lately.  Between Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, there’s been a ton of rain – and after this wet weather, the freezing cold aspect of a Boston winter is coming on! Being locked out of your home or business when the temperature is below zero is absolutely no joke.  In those instances, you’ll want to call your Boston locksmith right away! They can help you get into your home, rekey the lock so you can have a safe, secure entrance once again, and even help you select the right home security system to keep other people out of your home.

Another time you may need a locksmith in Boston is if you’ve locked your keys in the car.  Car entry systems are becoming increasingly complicated. You’ll want to work with a locksmith who has experience with newer cars, especially those cars that use transponder chips in their keys.  That way you’ll be able to get back in your car and on the road fast!
